I am filming from an external walkway five floors above what I am documenting. What I see immediately is the drama of shooting at night. Space outside the frame is abruptly dark. Occasionally more is revealed by floodlights on the diggers as they move between locations. Workers have been here for months preparing to line the leaking Victorian water mains. The pipes are fragile and prone to sudden spectacular releases of water. So they will be left in place and lined with large plastic pipes, stretched and pulled inside the older pipes and released, expanding to form a tight seal. I have decided to show the process with clips arranged side by side, shot sequentially - each feeding the understanding of the other. The camera (phone) being hand held, the clips appear as floating platforms in the dark. Often one of the workers will disappear into the darkness out of one clip only to reappear in the other. There are always workers that seem to be standing around doing nothing. Then suddenly they rush off in different directions, assigned to very specific tasks.
